The Reports of Our Death Have Been Greatly Exaggerated

Adam Walker

…or why an AI Chat Bot will not be writing your newsletter anytime soon.

Recent advances in AI have been nothing short of paradigm-shifting. The internet has been lit up with people cheering and fearing these developments, and with good reason.

AI is going to revolutionize the way much content is created. Essays, reports, blog posts, marketing emails, illustrations, videos, you name it, and AI will change the game.

For example, here is Ryan Reynolds asking Chat GPT to generate copy for an ad for Mink mobile.

Not too shabby, eh?

So, is it time for us at Custom Creative Newsletter Specialists to take our ball and go home?

No, and here is why.

AI has access to the internet and all that is in it and creates compelling content using that.

AI can’t develop a communications plan and newsletter based on your organization’s unique and often private needs. For example, you may need to address a safety issue that is not public knowledge. This takes tact and sophisticated messaging. AI may be able to generate a generic article about safety, but it can’t find out how John in Accounting or Jane in Operations feels about it and do so in a sensitive manner.

AI doesn’t have the empathy and intuition required to interview your employees or customers and find the relevant, perhaps amusing, perhaps touching, experiences, comments and quotes that support your organization’s goals. A great interview depends on a person-to-person connection. Subjects are often uncomfortable at first, and trust needs to be established. (we’ll revisit this in later posts.)

These are just the few that come to mind.

Now, there is no denying that AI can do a lot and will continue to be able to do more and more.

But human creativity is still vital to producing compelling content unique to your organization. So, the good folks at Custom Creative Newsletter Specialists are still sleeping pretty soundly at night…for now. 😊

Getting the boss' voice right: How to craft effective executive messaging

Over the years, I have written messaging for many senior executives and leaders.
